Ali Qapu Palace
Ali Qapu palace is in the west naghsh e jahan square and in front of the sheikh lotfollah mosque and it is located in the center of the town.
The name of the Ali Qapu ( magnificent Gate) was given to this palace as it was right at the entrance to the Safavid palaces which streched from the naghsh e jahan square to the Chahar Bagh boulevard.The building another wonderful Safavid edifice was built by decree of Shah Abbas the Great in the early 17th century.Also the building known as Ali Qapu or Dolatkhne in Isfahan.The palace is one of the most important architectural masterpieces of Iranian and has a global reputation.It was here that the great monarch used to entertain noble visitors and foreign ambassadors.Shah Abbas, here for the first time celebrate Now-ruz ( New year's day ).Ali Qapu is rich in naturalistic wall painting by Reza Abbasi, the court painter of Shah Abbas I and his pupil.The palace gate was the entry of all the palaces that were in naghsh e jahan square in Isfahan.Ali Qapu composed of two words: excellant and Qapu which means of High Port. Therefore, all those who wanted to enter the Ali Qapu should be bent,kissed the threshold and enter, so that even Shah Abbas was dismounted while entering the building.Its hight 48 meters.What makes Ali Qapu glorious and precious is all plaster works that is made by Reza Abbasi.Ali Qapu is the most largest palace that may exist in the capital so we can say that this house at the time of Safavid has been the best in the world.
Ali Qapu has six floor, each has a special decoration.
The Ali Qapu building was founded in several stages begining from a building with a single gate with entrance to the government building complex and gradually developed,ending in existing shape. The period of the development with intervals lasted approximately 70 years. Overall, Ali Qapu composed of two distinct parts: the front of the entrance building and the main building of the palace.
First Stage: the initial building acting as entrance to the complex was in cubical shape and in two stories with dimention measuring 20 * 10 meter and 13 meter high. In those days it was devoted to the paper work and bureacracy. On either side of the entrance there are two stones platform and it is also an inscription above. the head of the palace built entirely of stone and entering the palace by the staircase to the upper floor.
Second Stage: foundation of the upper hall, built on the entrance vestibule with cubical shape, over the initial cubic shape structure with the same height in two visible stories.there is an Ivan above the entrance porch which is open from three directions.
Third Stage: foundation of the fifth stories, the music amphitheater or music hall,built on the lower halliusing the centeral room for sky light and thus the vrtical extension being emphasized. on this floor is a large veranda which is based on 18 pillars tall and subline beauty of the marble fountain in the middle of the porch there. there are marble pond at the adge of the porch which is in the middle of the fountain and the pool's floor was made of the copper.
Fourth Stage: foundation of the eastern verandah or pavillion advancing towards the square,supported by the tower shaped building. by foundation of this verandah supported by 18 wooden columns and contemoraneous with erection of the ceiling the entrance vestibule was extended along the main gate and passage to the market, prependicular to the eastern flank of building.
Fifth Stage: foundation of the wooden ceiling of the verandah,supported by 18 wooden columns and contemporaneous with direction of the ceiling.
Sixth Stage: the sixth floor has a great hall,which is fully plaster. it is also famous for the sound room. Based on sound physical undrestanding and reflection in a way that made it sound like a recording studio equipped with additional resonance volume has been destroyed and sound flat to all parts of the hall. walls around the room have been decorated with beautiful paintings. the stucco decoration of the banquet hall abound in motif of various vessels and cups. the Safavid ruler watched Polo,maneuveurs and the horse riding on the opposit of the naghsh e jahan cause of Denomination.
